Schools have a statutory obligation to allow those of their employees who are accredited trade union representatives (e.g. workplace stewards, health and safety or learning reps) reasonable time-off with pay to attend to trade union duties: this is often referred to as ‘facility time’. This also includes time-off to attend relevant training. Failure to comply with this statutory duty can result in legal proceedings against an employer. This service enables participating sites to ‘pool’ funds to meet any costs associated with facility time that would otherwise have to be met from your budget.
