1 day course for staff working directly with students who use specific equipment &/or techniques to support their posture, mobility &/or self-care needs.

Description

What does this course cover?
? Defining manual handling
?Employer & employee responsibilities
? Relevant Statutory Legislation & Regulations
? Principles of safe moving & handling
? What constitutes ‘bad practice’
? Risk assessments
? Practical demonstrations of moving & handling equipment

Outcomes

Course aims: Participants will:
? Gain/improve their knowledge of the principles & practice of safe moving & handling
? Gain/improve their knowledge of available equipment of & how & when it might be used
? Gain/improve their confidence in supporting students with moving & handling needs
? Following the course, back in setting/school the Student’s Occupational Therapist will be able to demonstrate the specific equipment & techniques to be used with the individual student(s)

N.B. This course does not teach techniques to manage or respond to students with behaviours that challenge.
